Take it off!

 The dreaded DIET!
I managed to put on 10lbs in 3 weeks of being sick and in bed. My Respiratory Infection left me wanting to sleep all day. I actually ate way less while I was sick, but eating once a day and no activity will considerably slow your metabolism! So, it is time to take off the weight... I have decided to cut out as much sugar and bread as I can. My goal is to satisfy my craving while balancing my blood sugar... I don't count calories, or fat grams so I will keep you up to date on getting my metabolism back in check!
Breakfast: Turkey Bacon, and scrambled eggs, skim milk (boring but filling enough)

Lunch: 1/2 Can of Tuna on top of Coleslaw with Coleslaw dressing and Sarachi sauce, 1/2 small baked Sweet Potato with butter and sour cream, Sliced Banana with Cinnamon. (I eat Tuna in my Tuna Tacos this way usually, I love the spicy Sarachi sauce mixed with the sweet crunchy coleslaw, and baked sweet potato is savory good, banana with cinnamon to get natural sugar)

It can happen to you...

The Town
I was just doing my daily entry on Marlboro.com, I do this because in 2009 I went on a completely free trip to the Marlboro Ranch that I won from entering a contest on the Marlboro Website! It was the most amazing vacation and I didn't pay for a thing... I loved it, and you don't have to be a smoker to win or go, in fact about half the people who were there during my 4 day trip were non-smokers! Right now I am entering for a trip to Las Vegas, hope I win... BTW it is not that much of a  long shot, from the people I met, several had won a few times! Below is some pics, hope you enjoy my memories, and that it gives you hope that maybe if you just fill out that "Win A Trip" logo you see everywhere that maybe you too will win! So BELIEVE, and maybe you will WIN! This is the CRAZY MOUNTAIN RANCH in Clyde Park Montana owned by Marlboro! I won in 2008, and went Feb 2009. I almost didn't even call the number to set up my trip when it came in the mail because I thought it was an advertisement! It was  4 day all expense paid trip, including flights, and a huge amount of cold weather and Marlboro stuff!

Food was amazing every meal!

It is not hard to be nice...

I have been sick for a week now, and still managed to be nice to my family and get my stuff done around the house!
Every morning I get up at 5:50 and start breakfast and get together my husband and daughters lunches for the day. This is my job, so I do it without complaint!

This morning:
I wake up my daughter so she can take her shower, then she climbs back in bed for about 20 min... then I go back to making breakfast and packing lunches.
Then I wake my husband for the 5th time or so, his alarm has been going off for about 20 min and he is just ignoring it. He has to be at work at 7am it is 6:30... I go kiss him on the forehead and say "wake up beautiful your breakfast is ready"... he grumbles and rolls over like a little kid.I go to get my daughter back up out of her bed (Yes I know 13 year old girls can be bitchy) I turn on her light and grab her brush so I can brush her hair. As I brush the tangles from her hair, I ask her how she slept, she gripes that I should have turned the heater up she was cold, I apologize even though she knows how to use the thermostat, she complains that I am pulling her hair (it is a tangled mess cause she didn't condition it... besides that she is old enough to do her own hair) and that she is still tired and tells me just to be quiet cause she is tired... I go back to wake up husband again, it is now 6:45... again I get grumbling, again he rolls over... I am in a predicament because I am going to get griped at for him being late since he works for my dad... I tell him again what time it is, he says "Damn't woman, I am up" finally climbs out of bed at 6:52 and leaves for work at 7:18...
Everyday I start my day with 2 very grumpy individuals, I can't be in a bad mood in the morning, so I choose not to... this goes on in my household every morning. It is disheartening to know they start their day off wrong all the time!

It is not hard to wake up on the right side of the bed! It is a choice you make. I do it everyday... I am sick and although I have managed to get a few extra hours of sleep while they were at work and school all week, I have still kept our home clean, done all the laundry, and made every meal. I shouldn't have to, it would be nice to be offered some help, but this is my job... so I do it regardless of how I feel. I honestly believe you can and should choose to start your day off right everyday, and that you should treat your loved ones with love and a smile when you see them. Especially when you have to start your days off together!

Washing impossibles, Looking "Pulled Together", and Makeup

Just so you know, I am not one of those freaks that loves cooking and cleaning, it is just something I have to do, so I try to make the best of it :-)
Cleaning: Laundry-I hate laundry!!! My daughter has a bunch of really cute crochet type sweaters, they can be a pain to wash, and I have destroyed one before by throwing it in the washer... so I had to find a way!
A pillowcase is the answer to my problem! I throw her crochet and knit sweaters in a pillow case and tie it, throw the bunch in the washer with her other laundry, when the wash is done I pull out the pillow case, hang the contents to dry and throw everything else in the drier! Time saving and useful! This also works great for lingerie, hosiery, and anything that tends to pick up lint, or get tangled in the washer.

Faking Pulled Together: I don't have a huge wardrobe anymore, and I have learned to make better use of what I have! I am amazed by those women who always look pulled together no matter what time of day, so I came up with my easy way, no matter if I'm at grocery store, work, meeting, or gym!
I always end up with those days when I need to be comfy at work and still look pulled together for something important, and may have time to hit the gym before I come home! I have found the answer to this without having tons of extra laundry!
My needs: Massage Attire, Business Lunch, Interview, Gym and Comfort...

  • What I go Massage in: Black or Grey Yoga Pants, Longer Fitted T-Shirt... Ballet Flats
  • What I add to go to Business Lunch and Interview: Light and comfy Pea coat, Trench, Sweater, or Wrap depending on weather... Earrings, Watch, Scarf
  • What I wear to the Gym: Back to the basics for the gym, Yoga Pants and T-shirt, add Tennis shoes!
Yoga pants are very versatile, and if you get ones that fit just right, no one will notice. Straight leg from the knee works best! Add pops of color with Coat, T-shirt, or Scarf :-)

Looking refreshed throughout the day doesn't take you carrying your entire make-up tote! I have an easy on-the-go set it includes:
These are in small clear zipbags- Ziptight Ziplocks work just as well!
  • Eyeliner Pencil-black on one end, brown on the other
  • Nuetral Lip Gloss
  • Neutral Pinktoned Lipstick or All Over Color Stick if u need a blush and lipstick
  • Mascara
  • Powder compact with mirror
  • Eye Shadow set
This is just a touch up set that I one in my gym bag, purse, and softball bag. This shouldnt be expensive makeup... I use $1 items from e.l.f. Makeup  that I buy at Drug Emporium each of my touch up sets cost $6 and I never have to be caught looking bad... I just googled and they have an amazing website!

Fighting off a cold, and cooking for the chilly weather!

For a few days my allergy induced asthma has been getting worse with the change in the weather, and I seem to have picked up a cold bug... So I have started my usual routine of how I raise my immune system and fight off getting sick!

I started off the day with Coffee (caffeine = bronchial dilator) and a breathing treatment... had to I spent most of the night congested and adjusting my pillows to elevate so I could breathe! Then a package of  Emergen-C

Homemade remedies that work for me: Garlic is a popular folk remedy for respiratory and vascular ailments, and had been widely studied... I chop up garlic cloves, and eat them...I mince the garlic cloves, put them in a spoon with honey and swallow without chewing with a drink of water (easier for people who don't want garlic breath). If you like garlic then just add to your food or make a spread by roasting with olive oil... I also add Cumin to foods or just take Turmeric capsules a natural anti-inflammatory. Both great spices that are good for you!

Dinner tonight: Meaty Mexican Potato Soup
Bring 6 cups of water to boil with salt and 2 peeled garlic cloves
In skillet cook 1lb of ground beef/ drain and rinse when done
Peel 6-8 potatoes and cube chop add to boiling water cook for 15 minutes or until potatoes are soft
Add 1 cup of milk  to potatoes (can add cornstarch for thickening if needed)
Add rinsed ground beef to potato mixture
Add 1 can of green chilies, 1/3 cup of salsa (I make my own), 3 oz of cubed Velveeta cheese
Continue cooking until cheese is melted.
Serve with shredded cheese, chopped jalapeno and fried onions on top
(Another variation I make of this is Meaty Baked Potato Soup, instead of Green chilies, salsa and Velveeta, I add 6oz of cooked bacon, 3tbs of sour cream, and chives to potato and meat mixture, and serve with shredded cheese, bacon bits and sour cream on top)

Easy Salsa:
  Bring to boil
6 Jalapenos, stem and seeds removed
1-3 Habeneros (if you like more kick)
1/3 onion
In blender or food processor blend together:
1-large can of canned peeled tomatoes
1-can of Hot Rotel tomatoes
2-tsp of sugar (takes away bitterness of canned tomatoes)
1-tsp garlic salt
fresh cilantro to taste
1/2 lemon-juiced
When jalapenos/onions are boiled to soft, drain and add to blender
Blend together all ingredients: Makes about 3 jars of salsa

Hoping that I can be helpful!

I am a wife and a mother... My massage career affords me alot of time to have a pretty domestic life at home too!  I cook constantly, I clean my own house, I bargain shop. I like to try new things, and I get to search the Internet daily for new things to try!
  • Cooking tips
  • Cleaning tips
  • Shopping tips
  • Beauty tips
  • Making the time you have useful

Cooking: I like to cook several meals in one day if I am going to have a busy week, I store them in containers, and it is instant dinner when my family needs to eat. Below I made Steak and Chicken Fajitas, Baked Ziti, Chili, Taco/Torta meat, and salsa

Cleaning: Laundry detergent can be expensive, I wash about 10-15 loads per week, sometimes more if its been a busy massage week, or if we have had a busy sports week. I doubled my usual box detergent last week by buying a box of Purex detergent at Walmart it was less than $2. I mixed my detergent (smells so good) with the Purex and it made 2 full boxes, smelled just as good, and cleaned just as well!

Shopping: It doesn't always work, but most of the time, price comparison is a great idea. We went to Shoe Carnival last night and I had my eye on a pair of Adidas Vigor Tr Running shoes, they will actually make perfect cleats for next softball season! $74.99 at SC, we left and went to Academy Sports, and the same shoes in a different color were only $54.99. Unfortunately they didn't have my size. We were on a hunt to find shoes for my husband anyways so we moved on to the mall... I found the same shoes in several different stores ranging from $50-$75. I did also look them up on ebay and amazon while he shopped for shoes! He got a great deal on the Nikes he wanted at Shoe Depot for $45.99 and I ended up ordering my Adidas on Ebay when we came home for $52.99 + free shipping! Saved myself $22 just by deciding to shop around!

Beauty tips: Right now my favorite product is Nerium AD, it has only been on the market for a year, and it really does have an awesome Marketing plan... but it has made a huge difference in my moms appearance... this is her after 30 days for real
 http://gestrada.nerium.com
It really is a cool product, it has made my pores much smaller, and cleared up my 13 year old daughters acne... it isn't for acne but we figured we would see what it would do! We like it :-)
No pressure or sales pitch, I will also ad some of my at home spa ideas and how to make your own skincare products, in later blogs!

Time management: I am a massage therapist, and that has made me view everything in how many minutes it takes to do everything... I know how long it takes to do dishes, vacuum, make beds, drive my daughters carpool, cook dinner, ect. it is helpful to know how long it takes to do everything because then you can plan your day accordingly. I like to watch Young in The Restless when I'm not at work, you would be surprised at how many small chores around the house you can get done during a commercial break and I am not frustrated because I know exactly how long it takes to get it done...
